How to personalise your wedding

Newly wed couple in Mildura toasting at their wedding

Your wedding day is all about celebrating your unique love story, so why settle for a cookie-cutter event that doesn't reflect who you are as a couple?

One of the easiest ways to do this is to reflect on your relationship. What activities do you enjoy doing together? What music do you enjoy listening to together? If there is a specific memory that you can think of that you could bring into your day? One way Alex & May did this was by having quirky drink holders that featured a funny illustration of them both.. Since May grew up on a farm, once she and Alex found each other – Alex was introduced to a whole new world. Their stubbie depicts May ‘capturing’ Alex with a whip, and they recreated this for us on their wedding day too, which was all kinds of fun.

Another way to do this is to personalise the parts of your day that are essential. You could speak to your catering team about making meals that are your favourite to eat as a couple. Or ask your bar staff to offer a cocktail named after a special memory or inside joke you two have.

Since Alex is from the UK, their wedding cake was traditional Welsh cakes, a nod to Alex’s home and upbringing.

This can also apply to music, you’ll most likely want an aisle song, and a first dance song (if you’re doing one) and these can all be your favourite songs as a couple or individually. Alex had to hold back his tears as he heard the opening to his favourite song play as May walked down the aisle. They exited to Blink 182, which is one of May’s favourite bands. And as a great full circle moment - in their exit photo you can see her Blink182 tattoo as they exited.

Your invites are a great way to add personality to your day. Whether you’ve opted for digital or physical invites, including photos of yourselves can be a special way to do this. Engagement photos are super handy for this, and since we offer engagement sessions in all our packages, this is a simple and easy way to personalise your wedding.

Ceremonies are one of the most important aspects of the day (the moment you actually get hitched!) and personalising this can create some special moments. Many couples that we work with try to aim for short ceremonies, but there are many things you could incorporate that personalise your ceremony without dragging it out. Asking a friend or family member to read a poem, excerpt from a book or quote is a great way to include some of your favourite people. Ask your parents or family members if there was anything they did in their own ceremonies that  you would like to incorporate.
